Patriotic Jello Cups

Jello is definitely an American product that has made its way into my family's 4th of July celebrations. As usual, I am all about the food and making holidays memorable for my girls. When I asked what foods we should take to this year's 4th of July barbecue, the first answer was Jello. It's funny as we don't usually eat Jello during the rest of the year. However, this great American company has found its way into our household tradition.

On this one, I will admit two things; (1) This super simpleness someone can easily make by reading the box. You really don't need my "recipe" for this. However, when I originally started food on my first website "OurArmyFamily," I did it because there often people looking for an idea or young people just starting off and still looking for the basics. (2) Yes...this totally should have been posted days ago, like before 4th of July. However, after relocating, I've been busy getting my Photography and Creative Consulting business up. (Check us out: www.jkjkreativity.com or follow on Facebook/Instagram: @jkjkreativity ...the website is still an ever-changing work in progress.) So, I have kind of put my Ezine on the back burner. Although, this is my attempt at remedying that. I definitely took on a lot restarting my business and my Ezine at the same time...startups take a lot of work.

...and back to the Jello

Our ingredients for our beautiful little jello cups:

  • Jello- obviously for patriotic, I chose red and blue. This can be done with any color combination that meets your theme.

  • Water- simply said...to make the jello

  • Whipped cream- for most things, I make my own whipped cream; however, Cool Whip often works best for that middle layer.

  • Fruit for topping

Step 1: Make the first box of Jello. Okay...it's as simple as follow the directions on the box. Using ice chips as part of your cold water helps the jello to firm up quicker.

Step 2: Fill the cups almost halfway with the first color of Jello. Let them chill until solid. (Yes... this layered Jello thing is a several hour process.)

Step 3: Put a layer of Cool Whip or stabilized whip cream as your center layer. Before you layer with your next color of Jello, chill this layer so that it firms. If you rush and rush the second Jello too quickly, this layer will float instead of staying in the center.

Step 4: Layer with the second color and chill

Step 5: Top with Whipped Cream and berries to garnish.

Don't forget, pretty jello is about the display.

At home, I use clear dessert cups. This is a really great option found on Amazon:

Or find disposable options for taking for elsewhere:

Enjoy!
